John Boehner Puts Onus for Tolerance on the Unpopular Minority

House Minority leader John Boehner criticized the building of the not-ground zero mosque on the grounds of tolerance. Really.

“The fact that someone has the right to do something doesn’t necessarily make it the right thing to do,” Boehner said. “That is the essence of tolerance, peace and understanding.”

The essence of tolerance is that the minority must peacefully tolerate and understand the majority’s bigotry?

Obviously having passed high school civics isn’t a requirement for becoming House Minority Leader.

And those Christians had only themselves to blame for persecution, because they wouldn’t respect the will of the majority and make token sacrifices to the Roman gods. They should have been more tolerant, peaceful, and understanding.

why is two blocks away a problem? Some news sources equate it to “just footsteps away,” and others want them to move back a block or so?

  4. James K says:

Christians weren’t persecuted because of their religion, Rome didn’t take it’s religion very seriously. Early Christians kept getting into to street fights with Jews, and Rome took public order very seriously. Although it didn’t help that Christianity was a very strange religion to Romans, even relative to the other cults like Dionysus, Isis and Mithras.
